![]() ![]() All I can say at this point is thanks a lot Dave, now I’m actually going to have to give this album a listen, and here I was hoping I could just forget about it and oogle over the new Children Of Bodom release…now I don’t know what I’m saying…go away. It’s not the best Megadeth track ever (*cough* Crush ‘Em * cough cough* ) but it’s still good. So, the title track’s a bit shit and the album opener’s pretty good. “Mustaine trying to write his own version of Tom Cochrane’s ‘Life Is A Highway’ and failing miserably.” – Axl Rosenberg, Super Collider (2013) It was all going so well, wasn’t it The follow-up to the widely acclaimed Th1rt3en should have been another corker, not least because Dave Mustaine’s mojo was very much perked up after his band’s mid-noughties revival, but Super Collider was a hideous disappointment. Especially when compared to that horrible title track, in what Axl Rosenberg of fame has describes as Call me sentimental, but part of me still has faith in Megadeth and their ability to make good records. But they seem to be about general rising up and fighting and *insert generic metal lyric topic here* so you can’t really complain. ![]() The lyrical content is pretty Deth-esque as well, being about, well…I’ll be honest, if you’ve ever made coherent sense of Dave Mustaine’s lyrics, then you sir or madame are some form of genius. But with this new track in the works, well, he actually sounds like his good ol’ pissed off and angry self, and even gives us a snarl or two. The song then settles into a pretty aggressive groove, axemeisters Mustaine and Broderick really going for broke on the pinch harmonics above a great chugging riff.Īlso, unlike “ Super Collider”, the vocals are actually tolerable on “ Kingmaker.” Initially I’d thought that Mustaine’s vocal chords had become so fucked that his voice had to be put through more filters than Skrillex screaming into a cigarette. It’s full of pump with that signature fast pace that we all know and love (it’s hardly “Holy Wars” or “Skin O’ My Teeth but it’s still pretty good). Unlike the shyte title track, “ Kingmaker” actually sounds like…well Megadeth. However, with the release of album opener “ Kingmaker” today I’m somewhat on the fence on how to approach Mustaine and Friends’ upcoming record, so lets ‘ave a look! Megadeth's fourteenth album starts up pretty promising with Kingmaker, but when the title track with its crushing title, Super Collider, appears I expect a double barreled impact, but all I hear is some viscous and weary metal, on the contrary to the title that speaks of a particle accelerator based on high energy. Not going to lie, that song sucked more ass than a proctologist and was far worse than anything off of 1999’s infamous cock-up “Risk” (except Crush ‘Em…that song’s pretty good). Super Collider is thrash metal veterans Megadeths 14th studio album and the first one to be released on frontman Dave Mustaines own label Tradecraft. When I heard the first single off of Megadeth’s upcoming “ Super Collider” my faith in one of my favourite bands dwindled, as well as my eyeballs being permanently damaged by the album artwork. As recently as 2009s Endgame, Megadeth was a very good band. ![]()
